MGB 2 conducts budget proposal workshop

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan- Supervising Geologist Marie Nelle G. Monteclaro presented her paper entitled: “Recharge Estimation of North Stradbroke Island using Water Balance and Geographic Information System,” to the participants of Geosciences Workshop on 10-14 February 2020 at Brentwood Suites, Quezon City.

The technical paper she presented was her final project in completion of her graduate study in Master of Science Course Project in University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia.

The paper aimed to determine the spatial and temporal variabilities across North Stradbroke Island using the water balance method integrated with geographic information system (GIS) utilizing available meteorological data.

“Recharge is generally higher in summer that in winter which for the most part is due to generally higher precipitation during that period, “Monteclaro presented.

On the other hand, five Geologists from Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. II attended said Workshop facilitated by MGB Central Office.

The workshop focused on plenary sessions, technical paper presentations and parallel sessions for major projects/programs of MGB.

The first day of the workshop tackled the accomplishments of the major programs of the Bureau that were presented by the Section Chiefs of the Lands Geological Survey Division (LGSD) of MGB Central Office.

The second day was scheduled for the technical presentations wherein Monteclaro presented her study together with other Geologists from different regions. Some of the papers were Thesis of those who recently finished their post graduate studies.

Parallel sessions were conducted for the remaining days of the workshop, each discussing on the major programs of the Bureau, resolving issues, and standardizing new methodologies for their fieldwork.
