MGB 2 Celebrates Women’s Month by Recognizing Women in Mining Industry

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. II joined the nation in celebrating the 2023 National Women’s Month with the recurring theme from this year to 2028: “We are for Gender Equality, Inclusive, and Resilient Society.”
MGB ROII recognizes the role and contributions of women in the mining industry through a photo exhibit entitled Women in Mining which features stories of women in the mining industry that despite being in a field that has been dominated by men, they continue to fulfill their jobs with utmost commitment and fervor.

The MGB ROII Chief Geologist and Gender and Development Focal Person Felicitas V. Piligan said, “We want to recognize the contributions of women in the mining industry. These women mining engineers as well as women geologists are breaking the gender barriers and shown that they can excel in a male-dominated field.”

“The women in the mining industry showed us that engineering and geology are fields for everyone,” Piligan added.
During the celebration of International day for Women on March 8, MGB ROII showed appreciation to the women in its workforce through giving of chocolates, flowers, and fruits as token of appreciation in their contributions and support to the priority programs of the Bureau.
Meanwhile, Piligan together with MGB ROII women Geologists Aina Claravall and Rea Mae Leslie Mejares gave lecture on Geohazard Mapping and Role of Women in Disaster Management in an outreach program conducted in Baggao, Cagayan hand-in-hand with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region II.
