THE House of Representatives has recently approved on third and final reading House Bill 3667, declaring the province of Nueva Vizcaya as a mining-free zone. Speaker and Lone District of Nueva Vizcaya Rep. Carlos Padilla, principal author of the bill, said the enactment of the bill into law would affect not only the present but also the future generation of people in Nueva Vizcaya.

MANILA, Philippines - Alsons Energy Development Corp. (AEDC) of the Alcantara Group said it expects the Tampakan mine project to commence operations despite the pullout of Glencore-Xtrata from the project. Sought for comment on the decision of Swiss mining firm Glencore to pull out from the project in Mindanao, Alsons executive vice president Tirso Santillan said the decision may have delayed the project but is unlikely to hamper its operations.
