Personnel from the Finance and Administrative Division namely, Erlinda F. Catabay, Imee Gatan-Agaloos and Luisa C. Guzman took part in the 2019 Public Sector HR Symposium held at the Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City on July 24-26, 2019.

The HR Symposium is an annual event sponsored by the Civil Service Institute, Civil Service Commission. This year’s  theme is : “Moving Towards Ambisyon 2040: People Centered, Clean, Efficient, and Effective Governance”.  It was an avenue where participants gained new learnings and strategies aimed to keep the Human Resource Practitioners abreast of the global trends and best practices in achieving people centered, clean, efficient and effective governance that will help in intensifying the values of public service.

The three day event consisted of plenary talks which included among others learnings on Leadership, Development Plans, Business, Good Governance, Review on Existing Retirement Programs for Government Employees, The Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018 and Best Human Resource Management Practices.

Break out classes/ concurrent sessions on different subject matter relative to human resource management were provided on the second day. The participants  attended four different  classes on  Transformational Leadership, Practical Tools in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals, Emotional Intelligence and When Talent Development Becomes Imperative.

The symposium culminated with an integration were all the participants experienced a hype in their spirits through a talk delivered by  Carelle Mangaliag- Herrera, a motivational speaker.#imeegatanagaloos

Mines Bureau Spearheads Environment Forum 2019

ForumIn celebration of the Environment Month this June, Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. II (MGB ROII) led the Environment Forum 2019 held on June 20 this year at Zen Hotel, Santiago City, Isabela.

Bearing the theme: “Creating Opportunities to Engage Stakeholders: A Relevant View on Responsible Mining Practices,” the event aimed to further raise awareness on responsible mining and environmental initiatives of the mining companies in Region 02.

Regional representatives of Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), MGB, and Environment Management Bureau (EMB) talked about updates on the policies of their respective agencies, while officials from large scale mining companies presented their social development, health, and environmental enhancement programs.

Engr. Eliseo Mabasa, chief of the Lands Division of DENR discussed some Updates on Technical Instruments and other Permits, while Engr. Marissa Balubal of EMB ROII talked about environmental policies. On the other hand, MGB ROII Chief Geologist Felicitas V. Piligan presented the Bureau’s Geohazard Assessment and Mapping Project: Landslide and Flood Susceptibility Mapping.

Participants of the forum also learned about offshore magnetite mining and JDVC Resource Corporation’s take on responsible mining practices presented by Louis Santos, Geologist of said mining company. Forester Leopoldo Castro of the Dinapigue Mining Corporation (DMC) likewise discussed on the topic Responsible Stewardship and the company’s best environmental practices.

Further, Engr. Joanne Padua, Engr. Sylvi Dianne Guico, For. Jomer Tiamsin, and John Fiao-ag of FCF Minerals Corporation presented the Best Practices in Stakeholder’s Disclosure of the company. Mr. Manuel Ordonez, Jr., Engr. Penny Rose Baldo, and Engr. Nericel I. Langres talked about OcenaGold’s Legacy of Responsible Mining to the participants of the event.

“This forum is essential for our stakeholders in the industry. This will provide new knowledge and an avenue to clarify issues besetting our mining operations in Region II,” said Engr. Rommel L. Amogan, Chief of Mine Safety, Environment, and Social Development Division of MGB.

He added that the environment forum was an opportunity to raise awareness on what the mining contractors do to the environment, economy, and especially for the people.

In conclusion, “this will also serve as benchmarking on other agencies and mining companies on their implementation of good practices as a baseline for others to emulate,” Amogan stressed.
